Cortin Protection against Anaphylactic Shock in Guinea Pigs
نویسندگان
چکیده
Studies have been made on a possible protective action of cortin in the prevention of anaphylactic shock induced by crystallized egg albumin. Of sixteen control guinea pigs only two survived. Sixteen of thirty-three cortin-treated animals received hormone at the optimum period of from 2 to 6 hours before the shocking dose. Nine survived and two others showed some protection. In groups treated at other time intervals the evidence of protection is inconclusive. 2 weeks after the first test the cortin-treated survivors succumbed to a second antigen dose, which was not preceded by cortical extract.

Evaluation of Bronchodilator and Anti-Anaphylactic Activity of Myrica sapida
Background: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways. The available treatment options have major limitations owing to low efficacy, associated adverse events and compliance issues. Therefore, the health burden of bronchial asthma is increasing globally at an alarming rate, providing a strong impetus for the development of new therapeutics. Myrica sapida is known traditionally in...
متن کاملAnaphylactic Shock with the Partial Antigen of the Tubercle Bacillus
1. Typical lethal anaphylactic shock has been produced in guinea pigs by means of the specific carbohydrate derived from a human strain of tubercle bacillus. The phenomenon has been observed in animals both actively and passively sensitized. 2. Typical contractions have been evoked in the isolated uterus of guinea pigs upon the addition of the specific carbohydrate to the bath. 3. True anaphyla...
متن کاملEvaluation the Efficacy of Anthrax Vaccine against Challenge with a Highly Virulent Strain of Bacillus anthracis Isolated from Soil in Sheep, Goats and Guinea Pigs in Iran
Protection of animals immunized against Bacillus anthracis is usually demonstrated by challenging with an appropriate dose of a strain of Bacillus anthracis that is lethal to unvaccinated animals inoculated at the same time. In this study the protective efficacy in anthrax vaccine (34F2 sterne strain spore) was evaluated in sheep, goats and guinea pigs challenged with subcutaneous inoculation...
متن کاملHypersensitiveness to Soluble Specific Substances from Yeast-like Fungi
1. The polysaccharide fractions from each of five yeast-like fungi produce rapid, fatal anaphylactic shock in guinea pigs passively sensitized with antiserum from rabbits immunized against the killed organisms. 2. Cross-anaphylactic reactions with heterologous polysaccharide fractions are frequent. They parallel closely the cross-precipitin reactions, thus adding evidence in favor of the identi...
متن کاملPrevention of endogenous leukotriene production during anaphylaxis in the guinea pig by an inhibitor of leukotriene biosynthesis (MK-886) but not by dexamethasone
Leukotriene C4 (LTC4) underwent rapid elimination from the circulating blood and was extensively converted to LTD4 within the vascular space of the guinea pig. To mimic the elimination and metabolism of endogenous LTC4 generated during anaphylaxis, 14,15-3H-labeled LTC4 was infused intravenously over a period of 15 min, leading to a recovery in bile of 85% of the infused LT radioactivity within...
